What Is a Limited Dental Exam?
Our dental team performs limited exams when a patient has a specific concern or problem that they are experiencing. These exams are usually performed during a last-minute or emergent appointment when the patient is experiencing pain and discomfort. Limited exams are necessary for our dental team to evaluate the issue quickly and accurately. The goal of our limited exam appointments is to address any pain or discomfort you are feeling and determine the cause of the issue at hand. During a limited exam, our dentist will use diagnostic testing and oral evaluations to identify the cause of the problem and determine the necessary course of action to correct the issue. The problem may be solved in this one visit. However, if the problem is more complicated, you may be referred to a dental specialist or you may need to schedule additional appointments for further treatment. Limited exams are often used to assess tooth pain, tooth sensitivity, swollen or bleeding gums, broken/chipped teeth, loose or damaged fillings, infections, and abscesses.
Comprehensive Dental Exams
If you are visiting our office for the first time and you are not in pain, our team will perform a comprehensive oral exam. Comprehensive dental exams allow our dental team to evaluate the status of your overall oral health, which includes the health of your teeth, gums, jaws, sleep disordered breathing concerns and other important oral structures. These types of dental exams are usually considered state of the art and are an integral part of dental care. We normally perform comprehensive exams on all new patients. Comprehensive oral exams allow us to identify any issues, treat problems before they become more significant, and create a personalized treatment plan that meets each patient’s specific needs.
